Perfect Al Dente Pasta- From The Instant Pot!

How to (3)

The instant pot is great at locking in flavors and can quickly cook food in record time. Even accounting for the time it can take to pressurize! But one of my favorite foods to cook in the instant pot is one of the easiest foods to also cook on the stove.

Yes, I’m well aware that it’s not that bad to cook pasta on the stove. But once you perfect cooking it in the instant pot, you’ll never want to go back! No need to wait for the water to boil, no need to constantly stir so that the pasta doesn’t stick together. You just dump the pasta and water in, set the time and now you have all this extra time to perfect the pasta sauce, to fold a load of laundry, or to get a head start on cleaning up the kitchen and doing the night routine so that you can relax for the rest of the night! For busy people (or people who just want MORE time to relax) this recipe just bought you 20 minutes of your night back! And the best part? I prefer the taste of my pasta from the instant pot a lot more than I do the stove!

Instant Pot Pasta:

Ingredients:
1 16 oz Box of pasta of your choice, so far everything I try cooks the same.
4 cups of water
Salt and season to your preference

Directions:
Empty pasta into the instant pot. Pour 4 cups of water over the pasta. Resist the urge to stir because you don’t want to get the starches going before the cooking starts. Season to your preferences. Cover with your instant pot lid and set it to sealing, NOT venting. Set your IP to the manual setting for 3 minutes. Once IP is finished, allow to NPR (natural pressure release*) for exactly 5 minutes. After 5 minutes set your lid to venting to release any leftover steam and then drain pasta. Enjoy!

Once the timer is done this is what your screen will look like. Wait 5 more minutes (L0:05) and then you can vent the lid.

When I first looked into cooking just my pasta in the IP, I was so worried about a mushy, overcooked mess! Not only would I hate wasting my food on such an epic fail, but I also didn’t want to waste my time cooking pasta in the instant pot to have to cook a new box all over again on the stove. The first recipe I tried had me cook on manual for 5 minutes and NPR for 5 minutes. While it didn’t yield the yucky mess I was worried about it was still a touch overdone, I like my pasta to have a little bite to it. Eventually, I worked the time down to 3 minutes and this produces perfect pasta 100% of the time!

Until next time friends!
